Explanation of the Exam
This scan produces cross-sectional x-ray images of the skull and contents (brain, cranial nerves, and blood vessels). In some cases, intravenous contrast may be injected. This study is used to diagnose diseases of the central nervous system (e.g., stroke, tumor, infection, bleeding, neurodegenerative disorders).

15-30 minutes

Preparation Instructions
Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your appointment. Please inform the staff if there is any possibility of PREGNANCY or history of contrast allergy at the time of scheduling your appointment.

NOTE: Diabetic patients taking Glucovance or Glucophage should take this medication as normal the day of the exam, but suspend it for 48 hours AFTER the exam. Discuss with your primary care physician if you should take a substitute medication during this 48 hour period. Check with your primary care physician for specific instructions.
